Thanks.

The Moving Wall
Rio Rancho Sports Complex
3501 High Resort Blvd

16-21 Oct 2013

Oct 16, 0800 – Need volunteers to help build the platform for the wall at Rio Rancho Sports Complex.

Oct 17, 0700 – Staging at the Extended Stay America Motel, 2221 Rio Rancho Blvd SE, (NM 528) (across from Intel on the west side of NM 528) for motorcycle escort for the Moving Wall vehicles from the Extended Stay America Motel to the Rio Rancho Sports Complex on High Resort.  This will be a short, quick ride escorted by Rio Rancho PD.  Entry to the Sports Complex will be at the west gate, then around north of the soccer field to a position opposite the location where the Moving Wall will be placed.  The goal is to arrive at the Sports Complex at 0800.  POC is Floyd Jaramillo, 505 883-9676

Oct 18, 0900 – Establish a flag line around the Moving Wall at the Rio Rancho Sports Complex prior to and during the opening ceremonies, which will begin at 1000.  We need to have as many flags available as possible, as there will likely be a lot of people to hold flags. POC is Larry Wiles, 505 385-6787.

Need volunteers to provide 24/7 security for the wall, man the information booth, and to read names.  Please contact Maggie Meadows (505 453-1124) for more information and to sign up for time slots.

Also need volunteers to help assemble and dismantle the Moving Wall.  They require the same group of people to do both tasks.  Contact Floyd (Firecracker) Jaramillo (505 883-9676) for information and to volunteer.

Call any of the above numbers to get information on exactly where you services will be needed.  Help if you can, a very important event for all Veterans.

On Saturday Sept. 14th we hosted the District meeting at our Post 81.  The Post was met with great enthusiasm.  50 folks showed up, Legionnaires auxiliary and SAL members.  A great turn out and I want to  personally thank all of you who showed up.  The Auxiliary, Unit 81, went above and beyond with registration and a great luncheon.    You ladies really made our Post 81 shine.

If you haven't been to the new post yet, you really are missing out.  We are hoping to have gaming within six months.

We would love to plan some events for the near future, steak dinners on Saturday nights  Maybe some evenings with different music, football Mon nights, Sunday nights.  But until I hear or see you guys to know if this is what you would like it is hard to plan.  Would hate to plan, spend the money and have no one show up...

So come to your Post and see who you might meet, relax and enjoy yourself

A correction, on the date of the Breakfast, it is still Sunday, yet it is the 25th of this month, sorry, (thanks Kathy for an eagle eye....)

A lot has happened over the passed few months.  As you know we have moved, and are getting our house in order. We are now located at 325 S. Main Suite D.

There are so members to thank for their help in moving and getting things straight, as well as those who have donated money and much needed items for the Post.  THANK YOU ALL!!!

A couple of items we want  you to be aware of, up coming events:

September 5th we will be having a surprise birthday party for Pearl's sister Maurine at 5pm.  All Legion and Auxiliary members along with their guests are invited to attend.  In lieu of gifts, just please attend and enjoy a cheeseburger and chips for $4.00, and a piece of birthday cake.

The Auxiliary will be hosting the District Conference that is to held at Post 81 on September 14.  All Auxiliary and Legion members are encouraged to attend.  Registration is from 9:00-10:00am .  The district will provide door prizes, and a luncheon for $7.00 will be provided by the Auxiliary.  Please plan to attend this meeting.

The Post will begin serving Breakfast again, beginning SundayAugust 25th.  This is not our usual rotation for them, yet we wanted to begin as soon as we could.  The regular dates are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sunday, so plan on stopping by for some good eats.

For those of you visiting the Post, during the week before 6:00pm be mindful of where you park.  Some of the tenants of the center are very possessive of their parking spaces in front of their business.  Give them the courtesy of parking either in front of the Post, or in the center parking area.  (as of this date, Sunday parking is not restricted)

Our first rental event was this past Saturday, and went over well.  The family was extremely pleased with the Hall and the service we provided.  Spread the word, we have a Rental Hall for special events.....they will, I'm sure!

Up comming is a Sunday Breakfast, open to all.  Get the word out a flyer is included below. Stop by the post for copies of the flyer if you have some ideas on where to post them.

Our regular membership meeting is the second Saturday of the month at 1:00pm. with elections being held at that time.  Anyone interested in running for office, be there for that. Officers meeting is at 12:00 .   Will add some more information later this evening.

Sunday, March 10, 2013

Good afternoon to you all.

At the general meeting held yesterday, we discussed our progress at the new post.  Those that have made their contribution to the building fund ( the six month pledge) were thanked and the importance of this was stressed.  Since opening the new  post, it has been found that no body was out and about on Sunday, and it was decided that we would now be open  1:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday only.

We have had some success with our Thursday night Cheese Burger offer, and will continue to serve Burgers and Chips for $4.00.  Another menu item was suggested that would be
fairly easy to prepare, a taco salad. Once the recipe is firmed up we will make that item available.

We have a need for storage.  If you know of anyone with a shipping container that is willing to donate it let us know.  Even a some-what larger TuffShed would work also.

There is a "Stand-Down" scheduled to be held in Los Lunas on March 15 at 9:00am.  This is a way to get the homeless veterans, or veterans that need other help the information they need.  (Housing, furniture, clothing, medical help)  This is new to Valencia County, any help you can offer will be appreciated.  For more information call 505-259-6755.

Jeff Flaldd has made arrangements with Walmart Belen for space to set up an information table at their store on the morning of March 17th.  This will be our first chance to let people know that we are here for our veterans, and community as well.  We need some more warm bodies. If you can help, call 505-220-5581 I'll will let Jeff know.

Thus far we have had the opportunity to rent out our Hall on two occasions.  This really helps to boost our income, the more often we are able to do this, the easier it will be to grown and do the things we want to do, for the members as well as the community.

Artie Johnston is now working on plans to have a community open house.  This will be a task, and I'm sure he would appreciate any help you can offer. The more they know about us and our purpose, the greater their involvement will be, again making it less stressful to continue our mission.

As it stands now, we are having a Community Breakfast to be held on April 7th.  As you can guess we will need some help with this.  Jeff Fladd is heading this up, and will be the master chef in charge, call 505-220-5581 if you can help.

Thanks to all of you that have donated food and beverages to the Post so that we may continue to move forward.

Nominations are now open for officers for the Post.  An election will take place at our next meeting in April.  Stop by and self nominate for any position you wish to hold. (sign up sheet)  Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the meeting before the ballots are cast.  Anyone wishing to nominate someone else, they must be there, to accept the nomination, otherwise they will not be considered for the position.  We need a secretary, chaplain, 2nd vice commander, that we don't currently have at all.  Nominations are open for all officers, and board positions.

Wednesday March 13th the Auxiliary will meet at the Post at 1:00 pm.  One important topic is that of election of officers.

Saturday, February 9, 2013

1000 W. Chavez Belen NM

A few highlights from our meeting this afternoon, which was well attended.  As a group we felt we could open the Post earlier, and close earlier.  As of today  we will be open from 1:00 pm till 6:oo pm every day except Thursday, which will be Burger Day, we will be open until 7:00 on that day.  Burgers will be served from 4:00 till 7:00. Cheese burgers and chips for $4.00, so stop by for a bite to eat.

Mike Martin donated a Deluxe BBQ  as a prize for our dinner on March 23rd.  Each meal ticket will include a ticket for this drawing.  Additional tickets will also be available at $3.00 each or two (2) for $5.00.  Other quality door prizes would be nice also, so if you have, want to purchase, or obtain one from a retailer, let us know.

Remember, our "banquet"room is for rent.  If you know of anyone who is in need of a room for a wedding, graduation, shower, reception....or whatever, have them get in touch with us.  The Event Coordinator's phone is 505-220-5581.

A selection of pics from the lounge area.

A reminder to the Auxiliary, we will be meeting on this coming Wednesday, Feb. 13th at 1:00 pm

MOVING DAY, THIS WEDNESDAY

JANUARY 30, 2013  11:00 am.

PLEASE JOIN US AT THE "OLD" POST AT 520 BACA.

THIS WON'T TAKE TOO LONG BUT WE NEED SOME HELP.

Sunday, January 20, 2013

You have heard the expression, “if wishes were horses, beggars would ride” Well, we are now riding a beautiful strong steed! We all have been wishing for a new HOME, a new Post in which we can really begin to grow, we have begged the owners in the community for a building that would begin to meet our needs, and we were willing to slowly add the amenities needed to make it livable, like a bar, and maybe a kitchen.  No owners were able or willing to provide us what we needed, until just last week.  We found it, the board viewed it, and approved it.  It has everything we need, down to hot water, four restrooms, a bar, kitchen, banquet room, office space, forced air heat, two swamp coolers, and a pool table.  Not to mention, coolers for the beer, freezers, refrigerators for the food, steam tables, cold bar, banquet tables, chairs, tablecloths, plenty of parking, and a flag pole already flying the American flag.  The opportunities are great for us to serve the community, our veterans, and increase our revenue.  The banquet room has been rented out in the past by the owner, and will continue be rented out by the Post. Work will begin as soon as we get the key, to get the food service certificate, and the license to operate a bar.  We are the proper distance from anything that would prevent that, and it just takes time to get it going.  The rent on this huge building is considerably higher than we have paid in the past, for this reason we are asking each of our members to pledge what they can for six months $10, $25, or $50 a month.  In just two days, we have already received pledges from members that have seen the building, and many that have not, but were so excited about what they heard were anxious to pledge what they could.

As of February 1st the new post will be open from 3:00pm to 7:00pm daily, 7 DAYS A WEEK!  The hours will change, as needed, yet we want as many people to visit as possible in the early days so they can spread the word.  Once we begin to serve a Sunday brunch, or have a dinner night we will have extended hours here and there.  So stop by and check it out on the first of next month.  The address is 1000 Chavez, Belen, NM.  A large brick building with flag pole in front on the corner of 10th and Chavez. See attached map.  (you can be kept updated by viewing our blog. )  Type the following in the address bar, not the search bar, of your browser       americanlegionpost81.blogspot.com

Reinken to 10th, right one block to Chavez.  Right on the corner look for the Flag Flying!!!

The dinner gathering we had planned for this month, January 20th, the Chili Bowl has been cancelled, but we have other things in the planning stage that will exite you!
